Net Zero Construction

ACT uses the patented JEP building envelope system that improves on tried-and-true construction practices in order to meet the requirements of present and future high-efficiency building needs. JEP represents a dramatic improvement in traditional building practices with specific design considerations exceeding present and many future thermal efficiency code requirements.

What Is a HERS Rating and How Does It Work?

The HERS (Home Energy Rating System) Index measures a home's energy efficiency. A certified Home Energy Rater assesses the energy efficiency of a home, assigning it a relative performance score. The lower the number, the more energy efficient the home.

  • The U. S. Department of Energy has determined that a typical resale home scores 130 on the HERS Index.
  • A standard new home is awarded a rating of 100 on the HERS Index.
  • A standard JEP home, with 8” wall and roof enclosures has a HERS Index Score of 25, or more than 75% more efficient than that of a typical new construction home.
  • The JEP Building Envelope alone scores a HERS 47 based on higher thermal efficiency of system methods and design.
  • JEP Integrated solar water heating system scores a HERS 7-14 based on annual hot water needs. Note: Deduct 7-14 points to both JEP home and JEP building envelopes.

Having a low HERS Index Score can command a higher resale price because you can anticipate the costs of energy expense based on the home's HERS score.

Benefits of JEP System

  • Superior thermal efficiency with a 60%-80% increase over traditional construction methods
  • Lower building costs while achieving a lower HERS ratings
  • Lower utility bills with significant energy savings to the home owners
  • Continuous Insulation
  • No thermal bridging
  • Zero Air & Water Infiltration (sealed building envelope)
  • Fire resistant ceramic coatings
  • Polymer & Elastomeric polymer Coatings (PB & PM) with nano ceramic technology, emitting particles, and other materials (proprietary mix design), with high solar reflectance properties that enhance thermal performance of the building envelope
  • Air Exchangers (filtered air): Indoor fresh air with limited allergens
  • Sealed Building Envelope: highly resistant to vermin, termites, or insect infestation
  • JEP Standard Built Homes receive LEED & Energy Star Certifications
  • Shorter construction duration lowers costs
  • Recyclable materials
  • Resistant to fungal growth
  • Low VOC
  • Abrasive resistant
  • Impact resistant
